Otaku Club for Teens at the Santa Maria Public Library

Teens interested in anime are invited on Friday, March 10th at 4:00 p.m. to join the Santa Maria Public Library for the first meeting of the Otaku Club. Otaku means “geek” in Japanese and this is a space to geek out with other anime fans. The club will meet once a month to watch anime, discuss manga, try Japanese snacks, or do an activity.

For the first meeting, Irene Flores, professional manga illustrator and author of the Shojo Fashion Manga Art School series of drawing books, returns to give a drawing demonstration and provide tips on sketching.  Join Irene as she showcases her special skill and see what it takes to become a professional manga illustrator.

Future meeting dates for spring will be Friday, April 7th and Friday, May 19th, and each will feature a different activity.

This free program is open to only to junior high and high school students, and is sponsored by The Friends of the Santa Maria Public Library.

The Santa Maria Public Library is located at 421 S. McClelland Street. The Library’s hours are 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Mondays through Thursdays, and 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays.  The Library is closed on Sundays.

Questions may be directed to Youth Services, Santa Maria Public Library, 925-0994.
