Get Ready! Solar Eclipse

Those who have ever wondered about what a solar eclipse is, and if it is safe to watch, are invited to a presentation at the Santa Maria Public Library at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, August 18th.

Library Youth Services and Reference Services staff will give a presentation discussing exactly what happens during a solar eclipse, and some other great facts about this phenomenon in preparation for the total solar eclipse happening on Monday, August 21st.

Attendees will also receive a special viewer, while supplies last.  Library staff will demonstrate how to use the viewers, and teach participants how to make their own viewers at home for safe eclipse viewing.

Materials and support for this free event were provided by NASA’s Digital Learning Network.  This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Santa Maria Public Library.

The Library is located at 421 S. McClelland St.  Library hours are 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Mondays through Thursdays, and 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays.  The Library is closed on Sundays.

Questions may be directed to Youth Services or Reference Services, 925-0994.
