The City of Santa Maria's central communications division manages internal and external communications for the City Manager's Office and assists with communications efforts by other City departments.
The Public Information Manager responds to inquiries and seek to provide access to City information by the public and by news media outlets. This office increases public awareness of the large number of programs and services provided by the City, explains how tax dollars are spent, and how the public can engage in its local government.
The Public Information Manager is the point of contact for all news media inquiries. In an emergency, the PIO helps disseminate and coordinate vital information to ensure public safety.
The office distributes printed, digital, and televised information, including the City's Twitter account, news releases, and This division includes Santa Maria Community Television on Comcast channels 23 (government), 24 (education), 25 (public access).

Mark is in his 20th year with the City. He performs numerous communications functions, is a member of the City's Budget Team, and collaborates with all departments. He is available to speak to local groups. He is a former journalist/editor. His community involvement ranges from being a board member and officer of Serve Santa Maria, Chair of the UCSB Economic Forecast Project North County Board of Directors, coordinating City workplace campaigns for the United Way, blood drives, and he is a dedicated Toastmaster officer. He is a past president of the Central Coast Literacy Council in Santa Maria, and a past vice president of Leadership Santa Maria Valley.
